July-August 1998

Congratulations Great '98! We made it! I'm sure we're all thankful that the one day of Commissioning week that mattered turned-out absolutely beautiful. I can still remember parts of I-Day, but now it's all over, four long years later...

Now that most of us have used up the last hit of our basket leave, and the reality of our careers is setting in, I hope all of you are enjoying your first duty station.

As you start to have stories to share with the whole Class (marriages, accomplishments, and maybe even childbirths), send your stores to Carrie Howe. She will be in Quanico soon, and in the next issue look for her email address.

For now, I'll just say that our Class is off to a good start. Many of us signed those pledge cards, and there are still more out there that signed them, but never turned them in. In the next issue, I hope to publish a list of who is on the program, and at that point, if you are not, you'll be able to sign up. Our goal is $200,000 in five years. A special thanks to the Parents' Club of Washington and Idaho who generously made a $300 donation to our Class fund in May. We are well on our way to our goal! If you have yet to enter your name on our webpage, the address is: usnacontact.org. (WEBMASTER NOTE: usnacontact.org longer valid www.usna98.org). If there are any problems entering your data, please send a message to the webmaster, but also realize that he may not get the message until Reform of the Brigade.

In the meantime, do not hesitate to look up your local chapter representatives. Captain Dan Lear '68, USNR (Ret.) from the Hampton Roads Chapter, 757-437-1800, and LCDR James Knight '76, USNR (Ret.) from the Pensacola Chapter, 904-932-1147, have extended open invitations to the Class of 1998 to their chapter events, so give them a call. That's all for now folks. Start sending in stories, and pictures too, we'd all like to hear about what is going on. Fair winds....DSF

Greetings from Pensacola: Greetings from Pensacola and Congratulations on your graduation and commissioning! We have been informed that 250 members of '98 have chosen Aviation and will he passing through Pensacola. To those members, we extend an invitation to become Chapter members. Please contact JR Knight '76, 4465 Madura Road, Gulf Breeze, FL 32561, 850-932-1147, knight317@juno.com or Angela Brady '83, 3631 Baisden Road, Pensacola, FL 32503, 850-433-5815, agbrady@juno.com.

We are planning a gathering for the 10 September Wake Forest game, a trip to New Orleans for the Tulane Game, another party for Notre Dame and, of course, Army/Navy. As a member of the newly graduated class, you are invited to attend the Army/Navy Game Party as our guest.

The normal price to be included in all this fun is $10 but, as long as you are on active duty and keep us informed of your address and interest in Chapter activities, we'll consider you a chapter member at no cost. Of course, if you would like a solid spot on our first class mailing list, we'll take your ten bucks and you'll be a full fledged voting member. See ya on the Beach!
