April 1999

Hello Great '98! Now that we are well into the year 1999, I hope everyone is doing well, and enjoying our slight pay increase that started in January. Every little bit helps... There was a distinct decrease in "Class stories" for this month. Instead of 10 or 12 messages, I have only one to offer you this time. Mike Morgan sent me a letter through Tim Clark (both from 1st Company), and Mike is now is Yokouska, Japan on the VINCENNES (CG-49). He gave me his ship's address and DSN, so if anyone else is going to Japan and wants to get in touch with him, just let me know. Mike got together with Brendan D'Anna, Laif Babin, Loren Reinke, Darren Salapka, Brian Weaver and Brian Love to watch the Army-Navy game. Based on the pictures that he sent me, it looks like they all had a great time.

Loren Reinke is still trying to learn how to play the guitar. He plans on performing at our five year reunion.

Brendan D'Anna is showing off his toys again. His latest acquisition: a SEAL Instructor. Hey, BEAT ARMY!

'98 Says BEAT ARMY! (back) Brian Weaver, (middle- L to R) Brendan D'Anna, Laif Babin, Darren Salapka, Mike Morgan, Brian Love, and (front) Loren Reinke. I'm glad to see that someone uses their Class mug...

The newest arrivals to Charleston are Scott Grossman, Chris Watkins, David Coe and Henry Roenke. Scott and Chris both got their graduate degrees from University of Maryland. David and Henry got theirs from Johns Hopkins. I am sure that all of them are looking forward to the change of pace. Congratulations to these four classmates, and to the many other classmates who have earned their graduate degrees already. BZ!

Nuclear Power School Class 9807 has only two more exams, and they are all extremely excited about finishing. By the time you read this, they will all be in prototype, and then worrying about those exams. It never really ends does it? Shawn Gee, Ryan Erdman, and Scott Hughes will be living together in New York. I guess they have all had enough of Charleston...

I don't want to ramble on, so send me your stories! Just in case you missed the last issue: If you can find the time, contact Sally Gingell at the Alumni Association. She is helping us with our fundraising, and we'll be able to keep in touch with everyone through her office. She can be reached at sally.gingell@usna.com or 410-263-4448, ext 205. She wants your phone number and email address. Thank you for taking the time to do this.

That's all for now Great '98. BEAT ARMY!!!!

Fair Winds...-DSF.
