May 1999

Happy Anniversary Great '98! We've now been "Alumni" for one year. I don't know about the rest of you, but one year in the "fleet" goes by much faster than one year at USNA. I hope your year has been a good one.

The latest news: The first few classes of NFO's from VT-10 have moved on to intermediate flight training. Tony Toma, Wade Blizzard, Chris Delgado, John Dinh, Paul Krumholz, Tom McGowan, Ken Wallace and Shaun Eisenbraun have all graduated from primary. Matt Greenawalt and Wendy Nowak are heading to San Antonio for navigator training at Randolph AFB.

Brian Skubin has now finished EOD school and is up at SWOS. Unless there are some exceptions that I don't know about, the rest of the SpecOps guys and gals are with him.

Jeff Immel, Jeremy Leiby, Jimmy Greico, Mike Murphy, Bo Warren, Vince Evans, and Mike Cable have now started Flight School. As far as I know, all of the '98 aviators have entered the pipeline. Good luck to everyone. Welcome to the Danger Zone...

Steve Puskar is stationed with his CVN in Norfolk, and may already be on deployment.

Jared Kesserling and Drew Bone are in Oklahoma with the rest of the USMC Artillery Officers. "Play anything, just play it loud, OK!!!"

Brendan Mahon graduated SWOS with the highest overall GPA, and Derek Solon graduated with the highest GPA for the Operations portion. BZ!!! Best of luck when you get to your ships.

Pete Halvorsen is now in a Masters program at Oxford. He has performed in four plays so far, is writing two papers per week, and is loving life. Keep it up Pete.

Bill Bradley has decided to go to OCS and join the Army National Guard. He is doing well working with computers in Foxborough, Mass, and has opened his place up to anyone in the area. If you want to look him up, just let me know.

Congratulation to Shawn Gee, who recently asked his longtime girlfriend Robin Holston to marry him. The date has yet to be determined, but I'm sure you'll see a picture of them in Shipmate when it happens. After all, I'm going to be his best man. Also, James Bailey was recently engaged to Mary Kay Sullivan. Congratulations and best wishes to them as well.

Finally, on 23 May 1998 Jennifer Sheats Bone and Andrew Bone were married at the USNA Chapel. Jennifer and Andrew's Wedding will be aired in a TV documentary entitled, "Inside America's Military Academies," on the Discovery Channel, 16 May 1999 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. It will also be reaired on 17 May from 12 a.m. to 3 a.m. and again on 23 May from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Standing L to R: ENS Tom Neil '98, 2LT Jennifer (Sheats) '98 and Andrew Bone '98, Erin Harrahill, Christopher Foley, 2LT William Kirby '98, and ENS Ian Schillinger '98; Seated L to R: Erin Mulhern, ENS Paula Langille '98 and ENS Tara Golden '98

Just one last word for all of the '98 Parents. I realize that many of the graduates are very busy with training programs and initial deployments. If you know where you son or daughter is and what he or she is doing, you can be the one to let me know. Just email the address printed in Shipmate, and your news will be printed in the article. Thank you for your continued support.

Until next month '98, Fair Winds...-DSF
