November 1999
Hello Great '98! Here we are at another month, and
I'll just go straight to news from our Classmates: First, from my
Plebe Year roomie, Jeremy Leiby:
I am three weeks from selecting my
plane in primary. Jarret Stricker (my other plebe year
roommate) just
moved in with me. I also live with Jimmy Grieco and Kevin Robb. Jimmy
and I both got engaged. Jimmy just last week and I got engaged over
Memorial Day weekend. I guess a lot of people are getting married
these days. I spoke to Bob Tongchiw and he is doing well. He was a
Company Officer at the Thai military academy for a while, and then he
is going out on a ship. I think he said it was some old ship that
Thailand bought off of the U.S. in the '30s or something. He said he
hopes some of us will come and visit him someday.
Bob was in our Plebe Company too. I'll never forget the time he was sitting in his
underwear about two minutes before formation, we all told him to get
dressed and all he had to say was: "Plenty of time." Lots of
laughs that summer. I did get a letter from Bob:
I'm working in mine squadron as a weapon officer in the ship. We just finished the GARAT'99 training
with the U.S. mine squadron two weeks ago.
From Tim Boehme:
Just wanted to give
you a quick heads up on a few '98-er's. Dave Edgerton, Damon Eason,
Paul Rotsch and I are still here at UT Austin working on our
master's
degrees. It was a bit of a culture shock, coming from the academy to
the largest university in the country, but we're all getting along
nicely. I'm not sure about Damon and Paul, but Dave and I have another
year here before we finish up.
Good luck to all you guys. From Greg Paradis:
Congratulations to Jay Young (the last SAPPster to realize the
error of his ways) on his engagement. He will be getting married in
January of 2000 in Virginia.
Best of luck. Here's another word from that wacky Foreign
National Horacio Delgado:
I have been detached to a boot camp
for three months. I am the Department Head for the Discipline
Department, it is more like Naval Development. I have about 650
recruits, and only 12 instructors. It is like a big Plebe Detail, but
with less detailers. I guess the high authorities have decided I could
teach something good to these young kids, since I have a different
perspective about things, and I am an Academy Grad.
It's a good thing you can't get fried in Peru the same you can at USNA.
Now, as usual, to finish up with what's going
on here in Charleston: Class 9807 is now on to Sub Officer Basic
Course, and Brett Levander will be on OLYMPIA, James (Chesty)
Fuller is going to CHEYENNE, both out of Pearl Harbor, and J.J.
Ethridge will be on MICHIGAN, a boomer out of Bangor. Ian
Schillinger told me that 2ndLt Jarod Kesselring was promoted to FDO
(Fire Direction Officer) for his battery at Camp Lejune. BZ! Tim
Clark
told me about some of his 1st Company buddies: Jason Fesnak is now on
his ship out of Earl, NJ and Kevin Cordle will be getting married in
August to his girlfriend from the Academy. They will be getting
married in the Chapel. Have a great time!
Well, '98, I'm out of news for this month. Keep the emails and phone calls coming, and good
luck in all your endeavors. Fair Winds...DSF.
