What's New |
December 1999Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy New Year, Great '98! The new millennium is here, and whatever you plan to do for the occasion, have a great time. I guess everyone has been busy, not many letters this month, but here is what I have from Tony Licari: I am now the Adjutant for 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion; I reported in May. We just returned from Mountain Warfare Training in the Sierra Nevadas of California. Adam Collier is in my Battalion too, but is at Combined Arms Exercise (CAX) right now. Funmi Adeyemi, Nate Langmack and Brad Ledbetter are also part of 2d Marine Division. Allan Sabol just got married on 5 September in Bethesda, MD. Nate and I were on hand for the festivities. Melissa Martin is the ADJ at MACG 28 at Cherry Point. ENS Pete Andrews (known by his friends and family as - ENS Pete Andrews), Jesse "I'm getting married" Balboa, and I all spent some time in Charleston in June and will be doing the same in late September. Jesse's rendition on the Spanish Rocket Man got me admitted to a local hospital for hyperventilation. I also saw Loren Reinke. He is getting married soon. Thanks Tony. That is now the second time that Jesse's singing has made its way into the article. I'm sure the whole class will be able to enjoy Jesse's talent at a Reunion sometime. From Dave Townley: Greetings all. A little news from down here in South Texas. Back on 26 June I married the former Amie Rebecca Marshall in Little Rock, AR. A bunch of guys from P-cola made the trip. Russ Crawford (Primary) and his wife Kasey, Dan Traywick (Primary), Tony Sclafani (P-3 NFO), Dave Fulcher (P-3's), Clay Shane (Helos), Jason Grower (Primary), Cory Shackelton (API), and Ghislane Williams '96 (helos). It was a lot of fun seeing all those people again. A month later we went to Fort Meyer to see my old roommate Dave Fulcher get married to Val Tumminna. Some more '98ers showed up for that, Derrick Dudash (NFO in Norfolk E-2s), Guilda Addessi (AMDO), and A.J. Clearindin (SWO). After finishing primary in Corpus, I made the long drive to NAS Kingsville to join some of the Class. Those down here doing the jet thing: Jeff Abbadini (recently married), Alyin Duyal, Dan Moll, Mark Brophy, Brian Summers (recently married), Trevor Davis and Shane Marchesi.Marc Williams, (CEC) has been in Kosovo since June with NMCB-3 and has found it to be a unique experience. The Seabees are building a camp for the U.S. Army at Camp Montieth in Gnjilane. He is due to return to Port Hueneme in December! Marc is engaged to be married to Pamela Phillips. The wedding is set for May 2000. Weddings all over the place, best of luck to all. ![]() Brian Hogan, Tim Clark, Dave Forman, John Zurn, and Ed Hanley got together for another SCUBA dive. This timewe went down for shark teeth in the Cooper River. We didn't find any sharks, but we all got some shark teeth Down here in Charleston, my class, 9901, is just about done with prototype. It feels great to be done, and now we are all on to Submarine Officer Basic course in the tropical paradise of Groton, CT. From there, we go to our boats: Going south to Kings Bay, GA, on the "boomers" are Pete Pitre (Blue) and Mike Congleton (Gold) on MARYLAND (SSBN-738). Dave Leather is going to RHODE ISLAND (SSBN-740). Steve Blazejewski (Blue) is going to MAINE (SSBN-741). Pete Andrews (Gold) and Rob Ore (Gold) are going to WEST VIRGINIA (SSBN-736). Jesse Balboa is going to WYOMING (SSBN-742). Matt Gilbreath (Gold) is going to PENNSYLVANIA (SSBN-735). More boomers out of Bangor, WA include: Jeff Sowa on ALASKA (SSBN-732). John Zurn is going to MICHIGAN (SSBN-727). James Webb (Gold) is going to OHIO (SSBN-726). Now switching to the fast attacks: Brian Cushman is going to MIAMI (SSN-755) out of lovely Groton, CT. The lucky ones out of Pearl Harbor, HI, are Mike Breen on CHARLOTTE (SSN-766) and Carlos Jativa on KAMEHAMEHA (SSN-642). I'll be joining a few classmates out of Norfolk, VA: Ian Schillinger is going to NEWPORT NEWS (SSN 750). Sam McGowan is going to MINNEAPOLIS SAINT PAUL (SSN-708). Ed Hanley is going to MONTPELIER (SSN-765). Dave Forman is going to L. MENDEL RIVERS (SSN-686). And lastly, Brian Hogan is going to CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI (SSN-705). He'll pick it up in dry-dock in Portsmouth, but eventually go to San Diego. Carlos and I are both going to de-com boats, the last of the Sturgeons--but at least we'll learn how to do maintenance. Now seriously, Carlos put in some serious time here at prototype, and he figured out that the 14 hours a day, seven days a week that he was putting in added up to 98 hours in a shift. He was motivated. Fair Winds, -DSF. | |||||
