July/August 2001 Hello Great '98. David is out to sea and Shawn Gee will be writing the next few articles while David is away. Unfortunately, Shawn also had to leave on last minute notice and was unable to complete this month's article. I (David's wife) will try to put something together for you and hopefully by next time Shawn will be able to take over, so bare with me on this one. The decommissioning of L. MENDEL RIVERS (SSN-686) is now complete and everyone has gone on to their next assignment. James Jones packed up the U-Haul and headed back to Norfolk. Justin Anderson also made the cross country trip to Connecticut to meet his boat. David and I headed to the tropical paradise of Hawaii, and are now living off of Aloha furniture. Our household goods are due any day. For those of you who are or have had a tour in Hawaii, you can appreciate our situation. The down side to all this is that David had to go to sea and I am left behind to hold down the fort. For all the wives reading, I know you understand and have or will go through this at some point. Hang in there, it is not that bad! Emails have been few and far between for this months article, only one, and here it is: Barb Chapman who married Matthew Chapman wrote to let you know that Pete Andrews is marrying Dorrie Rumenick on 8 September. They were introduced by Barb, who was a school teacher with Dorrie at the time. Pete is now stationed in Kings Bay and the wedding will be in Charleston, SC, where they met. Congratulations and good luck to both of them! We hope to see some pictures after the wedding! Everyone seems to be tying the knot these days...Well, that is all for now. It is fun to find out what is going on, so keep sending those emails and I will forward them to Shawn Gee for the next couple of articles.
