April 2002

Hello, great '98! Now that the month of April is upon us, winter is officially over, and we are one month shy of four years of active duty (except those of you with prior service). January must have been a busy month for everyone, since not a single person emailed me. All I can say this month is that, once again, it really is a small world. Just today I was at Tripler Hospital with my wife for her pregnancy check-up and ran into Kerry Hudson (formerly Kerry George '99) who lived a few doors down from me at USNA. Her twin sister, Kelly George '99, is stationed out here at Kaneohe, but happens to be out in Okinawa while Kerry is here. A few hours after that I was picking up some pizza and I saw a guy from '97 who was a Battalion Commander (I think) our 2nd Class Year. Earlier in the day I went down to Key West and ran into two other guys I know, from '99 and '00. Small, small world. Bret Levander once called Hawaii "Naval Academy West," and he was right on. (I'm sure someone else called it that first, but Bret was the one to tell me.) I hope everyone is doing well. Please send me some email so the articles can be more fun for you to read, and I can write about the Class of '98 instead of other Classes. Take care and be safe. Fair winds... -DSF
