May 2002Hello again, Great '98! Another short month has gone by, and here we are at four years of naval service. Kind of crazy. I'll get right to the articles for this month. The first is from Peter Lombard (plombard@jhmi.edu): I am graduating from Johns Hopkins medical school this May, at long last. I will be moving to San Diego in June to begin my internship in internal medicine at the San Diego Naval Hospital at Balboa. Yes, it's time to put the uniform back on, for good it seems. Life as a civilian for four years has been a fantastic experience, and I feel very fortunate that I was able to train at one of the best teaching hospitals in the world, but believe it or not I am looking forward to my re-commissioning. Talk about role-reversalŠI'm getting back in just as many of our Classmates will be getting out. And it looks like the very earliest I'll be able to follow suit is 2015! Career Navy will likely be the most practical option for me. If anyone in San Diego wants to contact me or has info on housing, I can be reached at the email address above.Sounds like you've done well so far, Pete; hopefully the transition back to the military won't be too tough. Good luck! I also heard from Scott Grossman, and he's doing well in Jacksonville. He's tried an adventure race called "The Bear" with some guys from his boat, and apparently they didn't fare too well (something about running out of water). At least they gave it a shot. ![]() '98ers on the porch: L to R: Devina, Ryan Erdman, Brian and Karen Guise, Dave and April Forman, Chris Moylan, SInclair Ahn, and friend As for me out here in Hawaii, I'm still expecting my first son on 14 May. Brian Guise is currently at PNEO, and he is expecting his first son in the beginning of July. Just a few days ago we all went to a party at one of the bachelor pads near Hawaii Kai. Bret Levander, James Fuller, Sam McGowan, and Mike Freed have a nice place with a pool and a view of the back side of Diamond Head. They all had a bunch of guys over for St. Patrick's Day. The funny thing is that I only saw one of them while I was there. I did, however, see Eric Sager, David Edgerton, Sinclair Ahn, Ryan Erdman, and Chris Moylan. Chris is at K-Bay on P-3s, and has about 18 months to go on the rock. Everyone else is doing their time on various submarines. Hope all is well with everyone. Have fun and keep it safe. Fair winds...-DSF | |||||
