Greetings great '98! The East Coast is finally seeing an end to winter. This one came very close to the amount of snow a few of us saw at NAPS during the winter of 1993-1994. In between shoveling snow, Jason Weed and Roger Ashworth are enjoying some relaxing time teaching at Sub School. Brian Eisenhuth is taking out a mortgage for some jewelry and would appreciate any donations made in his name. Dale Matheny managed to get off his boat early and spends his time shaping the minds of his students at NAPS. Only one submission this month-this one from Jake Schmitter:
Greeting '98ers! I have been living the good life at NAS Whidbey Island after returning from deployment in August. After almost two years of marriage, my wife, Drew, and I were finally able to take a well-deserved honeymoon. We highly recommend Hawaii for a vacation for those of you who have never been there. And wouldn't you know that in the midst of paradise, we ran into our very own Dave Forman with his wife and new baby. Cute kid, Dave. Fortunately, my squadron (VAQ 140 Patriots) detachments have not been too painful. In December we were sent to Nellis AFB in Vegas to support training the Air Force bubbas. Unfortunately, I was in the healing chair due to the PRK surgery that I received in late October. For the Army-Navy game, my fellow Patriots Mike Gussenhoven '96, Chris Delgado, Brian Miller '99, and myself got to enjoy the crushing of Army at the Riviera Casino with the local Las Vegas USNA Alumni Association. In February we went down to San Diego to assist in the flight deck certification for STENNIS. Patriot Paddles (comprised of Nick Green '97, Todd Zentner, and Brian Miller '99) successfully waved our two jets and six pilots. Our newest ECMO nugget, Ryan "Silent Bob" Stofferahn '00, got his first look at what life is like at three quarters of a mile behind the boat. Other Alumni in VAQ-140 are LCDR Darin "Sonny" Liston '91, LCDR Chris "Millhouse" Middleton '92 and the most recent addition to Patriotville, Blake Jackson '00. Also out there on STENNIS doing CQ in a Super Hornet was Sara Stires. Sara, I never saw you but I recognized your voice on the radio. While I was enjoying the sights and sounds of South Dakota, I ran into Justin Bliffen, Leif Babin, Rick Ullman, and Minh Trinh. I guess its not hard to believe that one would find so many '98ers keepin' it real at the PB Bar&Grill. Hope to see some of you in Whidbey sometime. Much love to the Dirty 30 gang.

Thanks, Jake. That's all for this month. The thoughts and prayers of those of us at home go out to those of you about to be or already deployed. Fair winds... -S.C. Gee
