January-February 2005Greetings Great '98! I'm sure that you all enjoyed the holidays, particularly with Navy's spectacular with over Army. At this point many of you, like me, are coming to the conclusion that your metabolism ain't what it used to be. I wish you all luck in shedding those extra holiday helpings in the coming months. We've received quite a few updates over the past two months (there's quite a lag in the whole Shipmate process that some of you may have picked up on) so here's the word from our classmates around the globe (including a group of updates from the west coast): ![]() Dan Kidd and daughter, Maria Anne I thought I would drop a short note and let people know what was going on. This past year has brought some great changes for me. I have been living in London, working for COMNAV REGEUR, for two years of shore duty. My wife, Kimberly, and I have been traveling all over Europe and the Med exploring the world. If that isn't good enough, this summer has been the best part. I got accepted to transfer out of SWO into the EDO community, which means I will be heading to Monterey for two years to study Mechanical Engineering. Anyone that remembers me in Mech E classes is probably shaking their heads wondering why I think getting a Masters in Mech E is a good idea. But hey, no one ever accused me of being "right in de head". So living in London, going to Monterey; life got even better as the summer went on. On 27 September 2004, my wife Kimberly gave birth to our beautiful 71b 9oz daughter Maria Anne. The three of us are really enjoying our new life as a growing family. We have been trying to get Maria out sightseeing before leaving the UK. The picture is of Maria and me in front of Big Ben. While in London I have run into fellow 8-baller Caroline Rodi, she is having a great time working her new civilian job with NEX Europe (beep beep). I have also been working with Tyler Goad out in Souda Bay who occasionally curses my name, but not to much I hope.Jesse Balboa's wife Angela writes- ![]() Jess and Angela Balboa Jesse hasn't had time to write in with school, work and new baby so I am catching up for him. For those who remember the "rocketman", he was married injuly 2001 in Honolulu, HI while on a sea tour with the USS OLYMPIA. Jesse and I then both transferred to Stonington, CT where Jesse is teaching at Subschool and finishing his MBA at UConn. More importantly though, Jesse Anthony Balboa was born on August 24, 2004 weighing in at 8lbs4 oz. Mom and Dad are both ecstatic about our blessing. Baby Jesse has gotten to spend time with "Uncle" Carlos Jativa also at subschool and finishing his NIBA at Columbia University. Attached are a picture ofJesse and Angie as well as a picture of Baby J in his first USNA sweatsuit courtesy of Bart O'Brien on his visit to us in CT after returning from Iraq. If anyone is going to be in the area, jesses e-mail address is jhbalboa@hotmail.com Thanks, Angela Balboa ![]() Vinse, Ken and Kevin And now for the west coast updates: Kevin Cordle is TAD at the Helicopter Anti-Submaxine Wing, Pacific Fleet, NAS North Island while he ponders getting out of the Navy and moving back to the Mid-Atlantic states with his wife, Jeni.
