Classmates,

I'm sure that those of you here stateside are enjoying the weather a bit more now that 4 months ago! For those of you serving overseas, know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. Thank you for your service and protecting those of us still here at home.

How many of you watched the Pro-Bowl on February 13? Did any of you see our classmate Jany Collaco cheering??? I knew she was a cheerleader for the'49ers and recently found out that she did indeed go the pro-bowl. Her appearance in the Pro-Bowl was the culmination of her cheerleading career. She's earned her Masters in Operations Analysis from Monterey and is now off to the next part of her Navy career. Congratulations Jany ... we're all proud of you and your achievements.

Also, I recently heard from Doug Thumm. He has just returned from Iraq and is the proud father of a second child. He and wife Mandy are residing in Jacksonville and are happy to be back together again after his deployment.

This update is from Mike Llenza:
Hi everyone, as my friends know I left my SWOrrior ways a few years ago and am now flying circles in the sky with VAQ-138 out of Whidbey Island, WA. I'm writing from the USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70), haze gray and underway heading to the Gulf to selflessly relieve some of our classmates, among others, Dewey Lopes, who is doing well and looking forward to shore duty in Oceana with his wife Danita, another '98er. My wife Shannon and I are happy to announce that we've got a boy on the way, he's due in July, which just happens to be about the time I get back! Other grads in my squadron include our XO, CDR Keith Holden '87, Blake Smelley '92, Jake Staub'98, Adam Page '00, Kelsey Martin '01, Joe Condino '01 and Jeremy Braud '02. People I keep in contact with, Todd Tavolazzi, that hot smash of a man is now happily married to the wonderful Bonnie Tavolazzi and flying '53s out of Sig, Scott Pichette is flying 60's now and headed out on deployment as well here soon. I ran into Chad Schumacher down in Fallon, our little Chad was all growns up and going through the weapons school down there along with Greg Malandrino. Friday night Chad made several appearances at the Fallon O'Club, by the way. Brian Love and Adam Fleming are ripping up Department Head school up in Newport, RI, from what I hear, they're thinking about putting them in for the early XO program. All the best to evryone!

LT Jose Gomez (U of F grad), Mike Llenza, CDR W. Jensen, our CO and LCDR Blake Smelley '92.
Mike Kostiw writes:
C.B., Sparky Here. Sorry I've been out of touch so long. I got back from a 6-month deployment to Iraq in the end of January. The mission was to establish the new Iraqi Military Academy. It was a great mission. The deployment took place two weeks after I got married to Kim. Needless to say, she's happy I'm home in one piece now.
Mike, we're all happy that you're back in one piece as well. Incidentally, Mike and I served together as 2nd and 1st Lieutenants in the Betio Bastards of 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines at Camp Lejeune, NC.

That's all the updates I have for now. Please continue to send information when you can.

God bless you all and Semper Fi, CB
