Great '98!

I confess that I've been VERY remiss in my duties as the corresponding secretary and can only offer an enthusiastic "No Excuse Sir!" My apologies to you all. A small bit of news on my own homeftont, my wife Carissa gave birth to our second on September 2 of this year. Oran Walker Johnson weighed in at 9 lbs 5 oz and hasn't stopped eating yet. Mom is doing well and we're now on the other slide of the mandatory 3 month sleep deprivation training usually associated with new additions. Here are some other updates from around the world:
Hello 1998,

I guess it is time for an update! Currently, I am a Deputy Chief of Enhanced Mobile Satellite Service at the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) in Arfington, VA. I was in Panama City Beach, FL at the Navy Dive School when I met my wife Deborah. Our wedding was officiated at sunset on the beaches of the emerald coast Memorial Day weekend. During my tour in Panama City, Warren Baugh, Mike Files, and Aleksei Razsadin stopped by the house for a visit and to catch up on the "peanut gallery".

I caught up with Mike Files again a few weeks ago in NY for dinner and a show. Warren is currently the president of a trucking company in Pennsylvania. After changing my designation to the Information Professional (IP) community, I also ran into Charles Fisher at an IP conference. During a house-huntmg stop at Bolling AFB, I ran into Gerald Wilson who is in the reserves and working in the private sector. He is in the process of moving to Atlanta due to a job transfer. During a business trip to California with my wife in May, I spoke with Mike Harvey, he and his family are doing quite well.

I currently live 2 minutes outside of Washington DC in Tacoma Park MD, if any one wants to stop by for a visit, drop me a line.

Todd Sawhill has sent in some great words as well as some good pics:
What's going on 98, hope this finds everyone doing well!

Lots of outdated news on the home front. The know was in fact tied back on May 7th in Annapolis. Blair Elizabeth Cooley became Blair Elizabeth Cooley Sawhill - scary isn't it? She's a spectacular woman and I couldn't be luckier to have her... (AND she didn't run away even after seeing my unhealthy obsession with college football and Southern fried foods). Several 98ers were able to come in for the wedding as well (Pat Faye, Dave Baas, Dave Cox, Fumi Adeyemi, and Matt Sladky ... plus Jay Hildebrandt '94, and Jay Consalvi '00). The day was perfect, and we can't wait to see everyone at a game sometime for proper introductions.

In other news - despite rumors I had gotten out, I am still in as the Spy for VF- 'scuse me- VFA-32 out of Oceana for the last year and it's been a blast. We did our stint in the NAG for OIF operations from October to April with CVW-3 and the Truman. We were paired up with VMFA-115 the whole deployment, so were managed to stay very entertained and busy all the way through the elections, and tried to keep ourselves entertained as best as possible when we could like for the Army / Navy game.

(Pictured clockwise from top in all their mustachioed glory- Todd Sawhill, Ashley Augostini '01, Jay Hildebrandt '05, Jay Consalvi '02, Shane Groover '02, Tavis Powell '00, Michael Witt '01, Cameron Collier '01). It was a great privilege to be there to help support the democratic evolution of the Iraqi government politics aside it's a great effort going on over there and we all had a sense of pride when cruise was wrapped up. We had some port calls in sunny (i.e. HOT) Dubai, Bahrain, and Crete ... and managed to spend 5 days in London causing mini mal property damage and without being banned from the nation so all in all it was a success. Right now we're in the middle of transition to the Super-Hornet, and every day when I go to Strike-Fighter Weapons School I see that its turned into a veritable class reunion with Greg Malandrino, Becky Adams (Dowling), A.J. McNiven, Chris Pacentrilli, Matt Maloney, D.J. Lopes, and Chris Delgado.

Any time y'all are down in Virginia Beach, look us up ... there'll always be a spare bed for the miscreants and n'er-do-wells!

Merry Christmas ... See y'all in Philly, and BEAT ARMY!!!!

Of course you are all aware of the devastation brought about by Katrina and Rita this fall. I've heard from Beth Thorowgood but not any of our other classmates/ shipmates from the area:
Just wanted to put some information out there b/c I know some people have been trying to get in touch with me. My Tulane email address isn't working and I had to change my cell number b/c New Orleans numbers aren't working.

So here's what's happened: I left New Orleans the Saturday before Katrina with my cats and enough clothes to last a week, expecting to be back the following Friday. 5 days later, the semester had been cancelled and I had no idea what happened to my apartment.

Right now I am staying at Josh Lafferty's place with one of my cats and another law student from Tulane, making josh truly awesome for taking us in.

We're visiting at American for the sernesterjust hoping to graduate on time in May.

Fortunately, everyone I know got out of town, although many people lost their homes and belongings. I spoke to my landlord a couple of weeks ago and learned that my apartment only had minor roof damage (although this was pre-Rita, so who knows now). The plan is to start back at Tulane for the Spring semester.

Thanks to everyone who was able to get in touch with me and who offered help and support. I couldn't have gotten through this without you all.

This has created the opportunity to catch a few Navy games, especially Homecoming - Navy v. Tulane. Hopefully will run into a few of you there! Beth
Again, my apologies for the delays in getting your entries out for classmates to read. Please forward them as I'm not back on track and ready to correspond.

Go Navy! -CB
